No new wheels necessary and I have not had any problems with clearance at all. The 7.5" wide stock wheels are the perfect width for 225s.
I have definitely noticed a difference between the Yokohama AVS Sports and the original Dunlops. The Yokos have lots more grip and are harder to spin because of both the larger size and a softer tread compound. Freeway on-ramps are even more fun now and the braking is incredible without activating ABS. I'm very interested to see how they perform at an autocross. The Yokos don't do anything to reduce the effects of torque/camber steer but that's fine with me--I'm more interested in getting maximum grip. The Yokos are quieter than I anticipated and they inspire more confidence.
Of the many tires that I considered, the Yokos offered the best combination of performance and price. I got them for $153 each from Discount Tire, which I think is a great price for this level of performance. The test results and owner reviews at http://www.tirerack.com are very accurate when compared to my (somwhat limited) experience so far.
I'll give a follow-up report next week after I take the car out autocrossing this weekend.
