There are many things to consider. I too have been working on vehicles for a long time, not as long as you though. I truly believe if I did it for a living the joy would be gone. I spend my day at a desk designing/developing Information systems, (well except for right now.) At times I find the job boring and frustrating at the same time. However there is nothing else I could do that would pay as well. I still get to be creative and develop and fix things, just with my mind not so much my hands. When I work on the cars, house, stuff like that, it is a release or relief for me. I could not make the money I needed to continue the way of life I have made for my family, so back to my desk. I have decided that when I retire I will consider some of things. I don't know if I have answered any of your questions. The only person who can answer them is you. So think about this, If you became a mechanic what kind of money are you looking at? If you stay at this job what promotion/stability/monetary gains do you have available? If you went back to school to become a mechanical engineer what would you want to do? That too may not be to your liking. I know where you are coming from, keep the cars a hobby if you can. I am not trying to knock mechanics or their wages, some are payed very well. But even as a mechanic you would be doing the same thing day in and day out, you probably wouldn't like it either. Keeping the cars as a hobby there is always something different to work on. You don't spend the whole day working on clutches 5 days a week, or transmission, as a hobby the problem is always a surprise and a challenge. This is what makes it fun and keeps it interesting. I have rambled much too long. I hope I have not hurt anyones feelings. Have a good day.

regards,

Bryan C
