...car accelerates more quickly, ride gets noisier and harsher, you get less absolute cornering grip, you're also giving up some load rating by going to the smaller tire.
A 205/50 already has a rather short sidewall, I can't imagine wanting to run around on a 205/45 on a car that's got room for something bigger, a 205/45 is a tiny tire.
