Well I had another successful track time/driving event this weekend. This was my 3rd event at Heartland Park Topeka. I was able to drive 3 hours to track run for a day and half ~ 100 miles and then drive the 3 hour trip back with no issues. The recent mods worked extremely well, especially brads (Georges Imports) adjustable springs combined with rear end alignment and the upgrade to the brakes including ss brake lines and Hawk HPS pads. Brakes never faded and show significant improved (shorter braking) distance over stock. With the engine still only about 1500 to 2000 miles old I never push full throttle but still got into it with a steady 20 psi boost, with water injection, new FMIC, Ford 3 inch swing gate, and 3 inch down pipe and exhaust mods, and still using a small used ($150.00) T3 Garrett turbo from Clifford Quan.
Lots of different cars out again, Audi S4's, Avants, RS 6's, 225 TT's, a new A3, Porsches, BMW M3's, VW GTI and V32, a few Subaru's, mustang's, corvette's, and Mazda RX-7's to round out the numbers, even a few surprise showings such as an Lotus Elise and a Ferrari Modena 360.
The event was hosted by the AUDI club of KC and I must say these are great people...very supportive, cooperative, team players, and 3 of them used to be Saab owners and even a couple of those commented they would like to get another classic some day! I was even able to convince a local Saab driver to show up and was able to get him some seat time with my instructor and his 914. Hopefully that will be enough to get him to put his Viggen on the track.
Now that event is over I plan to continue with rebuild phase 3 modifications which will include putting on a bigger turbo, bigger brakes, bigger rims, racing seats with 5 point harness, a roll cage, etc. Don’t know how many I will be able to afford this year but slow and steady progress. Hope to make it too one more Driving Event this year also, just have to wait and see.
