This has been discussed a few times here... and all over the 'net. Some contend that you'd have to drive your VSaab many many thousand miles to wear out the valve seats. I've done it on my '73 Sonett. Had the heads redone and didn't put in hardened seats. I forget now...getting old I guess...but I put at least 20K on the car before one of the exhaust valves got sucked into the heads. What seems to be important is HOW you drive the car- high revs and hard driving cause high heat and they deteroriate much faster.
You can also add lead subsitute. Redline supposedly makes the best. I use it in my 96.
It's all up to you and your pocketbook. And how long you want to keep the car.
