Are you sure that the shoes are installed correctly? As per my OEM SAAB manuals... The leading and trailing shoe slots should look reversed from each other. What I am saying is the hand brake lever's square end fits into the straight slot of the trailing (rear)shoe and its opposite end with the notch fits into the roundish hole (with its own notch) of the leading (front) shoe. Radius grinding of the shoe after the drum has been dressed up is also required. The shoes should be ground so that the radius is about 0.010 - 0.012 in. ( 0.25 - 0.30 mm) less than that of the drum. the ends of the linings must not be chamfered; the edge shoud be as sharp as possible. Do not let oil or grease to come in contact with the brake linings or drums. Please post a follow up. Good luck!
