This is a follow-on to ericinvermont's excellent post. My site SaabSonett.org has collected years of restoration and pricing data. There is obviously a strong relationship between the CONDITION you plan to restore to (e.g. concours, excellent, etc.) and the COST of doing so.
There is no one answer to the question of "how much will it cost" because it depends on condition.
Assuming you have a Sonett in restorable condition, here are some ballpark estimates of the cost of reaching the following condition levels:
a) to FAIR condition: $2,000 - obvious wear, significant mechanical issues, but car can be driven in a very limited range
b) to GOOD condition: $5,000 - detectable wear especially interior, minor mechanical issues, paint imperfections, but can be driven with reasonable confidence 150+ miles at a time
c) to EXCELLENT condition: $14,000 - minimal wear, flaws that public does not detect, outstanding road performance, can be driven anywhere with confidence, fully restored exterior and interior
d) to CONCOURS condition: $28,000+ - one of the best examples in the world, a show piece, and you probably won't want to drive it at all
