Stephen,
I changed my cam with the engine out, but it is possible to change it with the motor in the car. First you need to remove the front end (bonnet), then the radiator, the crank pulley, timing cover, and the timing gears. Then there is a sheet metal guard that needs to be unbolted from the engine block, and then the last piece to remove is the oval metal guard that has 2 bolts. This is what holds the camshaft in. From here you just pull the camshaft out towards the front of the engine.
Before you remove it you will need to take the heads off the and remove the tappets. They can be removed with a bent coat-hanger. There are holes in the top of the block where you can insert the coat-hanger. If you dont take out the tappets, they will fall down into the block.
Hope this helps. If i missed anything I'm sure others will catch it
