Just a quick note Stephen B, the wiper motors are known to have problems. Usually moisture gets into the motor and rust inhibits the operation of it. Note that the wiper switch has a number of positions off, park, low speed, high speed and wiper with washer pump activated.
The front clip is usually removed to get the motor out as it sits too far up and under the clip to remove it without doing so. I did get one of mine going by removing the base can and after cleaning all the bits of rust I was able to shim back the three brushs from their wire ends temporarily to replace the can with the armature inplace. I also drilled a small drain hole in the can as was suggested to help any water to escape it in the future. The wiper motor is the same as some other British cars but you may have to reuse the drive gear. Check with your local British car parts source. As the buss fuses and fuse block are fusy first check that there is a real good power connection (head light problems are also known to be caused by fuse/contact corosion and poor/loose fit. Happy to hear you have sorted out your spring problem. Good luck!
