1973 Sonett - Accelerator pump bad

I got my 1973 Sonett back and was told the accelerator pump was bad and they didn't have time to finish that or work on it. The car runs fine still but has hesitation when shifting. I am leaving to drive the car from WA state to southern California (to our new home!). Is it still safe to drive?? This is my vacation drive so need to know if I can make it okay! Do you have to take the bonnet off to work on that? Can the work be done in a day by someone with knowledge and a part in hand?? I leave Oct.1 and can't really delay my trip much longer!
