Sorry D.W.D. but I have never heard of anyone doing this. Can you explain what you are trying to do. In 1986 when I bought my first Sonett (73) I found I was bottoming out the front end on speed bumps and driveway entrance curbing. The oil pan had a few old bangs when I got it from the original owner and after I add a few more of my own scrapes and dings I decided to have new 14mm springs made for the front. I then installed the old 12mm front springs (13.4" height 8 1/2 coils) on the rear which replaced the original 10mm springs (12.5" height 7 1/2 coils). Todays steel is alot stronger than what was used when these cars were made and you may find having new springs made up to OEM specs will solve your problems. My 71 Sonett (bought in 1998) has the same low clearance problems I experienced with my 73. I am not sure what or how you will have to treat your springs to reset/regain their original weighted height. Perhaps a coil spring manufacturer can help you with that. FYI maximum spring expansion is listed as 5.5" front and 5.9" rear. P.S. twenty four years later and I still have the old rear springs in my shop collecting dust!
