Weber and Timing Questions

Hi there, so I spent some more time on my Weber this weekend, stripped it right down an dcleaned out everything.
Checked all the Jet and Tube numbers, they all seem standard for a 32/36 DGV, I still got some hestiation on acceleration off idle, with worst case stalling or backfire. At one point I stalled it and it woudl only run on ne cylinder, but it eventually came good, I think I foulded all the plugs.
Anyway I have eventually got it ok, but it involves setting the timing about 1 extra notch in advance of the last timing mark, so I guess its set at 10 or 12 degrees BTC. Is this ok? the heads have been ported and higher compression pistons installed. Cam is stock, I have a better one, but too hard to install.
The idle jets are 55 on primary and 50 on secondary are these too lean? as I need more than 2 turns of idle mixture.
