Speedometer cable questions again Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Mon, 24 Jan 2011 08:53:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A while back I described how I was trying to diagnose the speedometer cable issue with my Sonett III. Work, lack of time, other projects, and the Christmas holidays prevented me from doing more investigation until this last weekend. But now I proved that the speedometer itself is still working by attaching my drill to the transmission end of the cable and proving that the needle will move. The transmission end of the cable seems to be a little rounded off from square (and perhaps a bit too short in length?), so either it is that end of the cable or the small gear it goes into inside the transmission.
Seems like the easiest thing to try first would be a new cable with a good square end on it. So, in looking for a cable, I saw someone on that auction site speedometer cables for a Saab 99. From the photo the connectors look similar to the connectors on my current cable. Does anyone here know if the Sonett III and 99 used the same speedometer cable? If not, anyone know of a source for a Sonett speedo cable?
