I am of the "old school" no sway bars. Tighten the rear to reduce understeer.
However I haven't autocrossed since the 80's with a SAAB. Jack Ashcraft and many others use the bars with success these days, so perhaps it is the better rubber available now?
Like I told you once before I used to pull the rear axle straps up tight with someone in the trunk/back, and remove the rubber under the front upper control arms to allow more travel. Chop a coil or so off all springs to lower car, thinner motor mounts to lower engine mass. Koni shocks all around. Wider steel wheels with the best tires of the day, cut down to 4/32 at a tire retread shop. Around 2+ degrees of negative camber in front (Puts more rubber on ground in turn), lots of caster 4+ (helps return steering wheel) A steering rack from a wagon (95) (quicker steering), and a smaller steering wheel. None of this made for good tire wear! 2-4 weeks new front tires, rear will dry rot before wearing out<g> I couldn't afford a locking differential, or would have had one.
Perhaps someone who is running one today will tell what they do. I wouldn't have told any of what I was doing back in the day<g>
PS: the 96 front sway bar snakes under the engine/trans and sticks out near the front of the lower control arms, holes are already for mounts to frame, end mounts just fit under lower ball joint bolts.
Good Luck, Richie S. in Da Burgh, Pa. USA
