Hi Stephan,

1st, you know the trans is NOT under the floor, why the h... does it have a FLOOR shift <g> Oh yea, "other" sports cars have them "we" need this.

Joking aside, first check that ALL joints are tight, taper pins come loose, holes wear. Check that the mount brackets off the trans are tight. Check the socket where the rod out of trans goes down into the linkage, no slop here.

2 to 3rd & 3rd to 2nd is difficult on all 95-96-97's as you are changing gates to a new row of gears. The shafts that position these gates are adjustable, but very seldom come loose. The shifter forks are all brass or bronze? and subject to wear.

The "trick" to shifting is that you MUST move it sideways Before moving forward or back. And of course if the engine or trans happens to move when you shift it no longer lines up where you adjusted it when it was sitting still<g> If engine & trans mount are good, a side support like is on engine can be rigged on the trans, or if you really plan on abusing it there are the "Mexico" mounts that can be fabricated.

There is a reverse lock out kit that can be installed, to remove that fear.

Good luck hunting, RGS in Da Burgh, Pa. USA
