My guess is that after sitting so long water contaminated the brake fluid and the M/C seal failed perhaps when you drove the car. Usually the fluid will leak out of the M/C into the pedal area of the cabin where it eats the paint and exposes the floor to rust. The M/C can be changed without butchering the frame (you may want to replace/rebuild the clutch M/C at the same time?). Check the auction site for a replacement.
