Gee, what a generous wife you have! (Or does she just want to get you out of the house?)
The engine is made by Ford, but it's the German V4, which is mechanically different from the English one you might be thinking of. AFAIK it was never used in any Fords except the German Taunus. In the US it was sold through Ford Industrial Power as an industrial engine, and you can still run across a few of 'em powering such things as forklifts, jobsite arc welders, irrigation pumps and (I've been told) lobster boats.
If you're in the US, you can get the water pump and most other parts through specialists such as West of Sweden SAAB (has an ad here in the classifieds.) If you're in Britain or Europe, you're in luck as parts are much easier to get there and often can be bought at mainstream auto parts stores (the Sonett uses mostly the same engine parts as the V4-powered Saab 96, which was sold in Europe until 1980.)
Be aware that changing the pump is a real p***er of a job if you just try to reach down through the little engine hatch and do it (although it gets a bit easier once you realize you can reach some of the stuff through the ventilation holes in the wheel wells.) It gets considerably easier if you remove the entire fiberglass nose from the car (not as intimidating as it sounds; gets routine after the first few times) and REALLY easy if you then take out the radiator; besides, if the car hasn't been serviced for a while you'll want to have the radiator boiled out anyway.
