I found initially, that the binding was in the nylon sockets on the engine bay portion of the linkage. After working these loose, I actually liked driving my sonett. Back in December, the car started doing the same thing. Along with the hard, neck-whip starts, the idle would stay high unless I pried the pedal up when I'd stop at a light or what have you. I will eventually replace the rubber roller that presses on the pedal with a bearing of somesort, but until then, I try to keep thing well lubed up. I haven't had the problem since.
