You say you want wide, but you are going to have trouble getting anything larger than a 185 section to fit without rubbing on the fender lips. And 185 also happens to be about the widest section that makes sense on the stock 4.5" wheels. (You can get wider wheels made up by having wider rims welded onto the steel center sections of some 95/96 wheels, but that won't help with the rubbing problem.)
The short part shouldn't be a problem -- just go for low ratio numbers such as 185-50, 185-45, or whatever you can find -- except that by reducing the tire diameter, you're also effectively making a "shorter" final drive ratio. In other words, the car doesn't go as far per turn of the wheels, so it takes more RPMs to achieve the same speed. Not a problem in around-town driving (other than making the speedo read too high) but if you drive the car much on the highway you'll regret it, as you'll need to wind the engine almost to the redline just to keep up with the traffic.
What I'm doing about this is to keep 165x15 tires (cheesy Dunlop SP20 all-seasons) on my original soccerballs, then had Willamette Custom Wheel make me some 6x15 rims on which I plan to mount some 185-65x15 performance tires as soon as I accumulate the necessary $$ (tried with borrowed tires off my other car first to make sure this size would fit; already found out the hard way that 195-60x15s would not.) That way I can put on the 165s when I want to drive on the highway and/or look "original," and install the wider, shorter rubber when I want to drive like a wacko and/or look "cool."
