...and will _not_ interchange with the German V-4.
The Taunus engine was originally designed for a car called the Cardinal, which was to have been built in Detroit beginning in 1962. The Falcon, introduced in 1960, was such a success that Iacocca squashed the Cardianl project. When Ford of Germany wnated a V-4, they were given the Detroit designed engine. Apparently they were still stinging from WWII and didn't want anything to do with the English engine. Some of this info came from someone on one of my SAAB e-mail lists who works for Ford in Kent.
