The weld method does work but as I learned from experience whoever does the welding needs to be very careful. I used an extra shaft from an extra bellhouse for alignment and had a heck of a time getting it out. Seems the separate parts tend to twist as you weld. Had to cut off and do over. Did several small tack welds first and there was still a slight bit of twisting but the shaft slid in and out. Seems to work great and I still have "some" pride in my car. Heck, I actually still love it; just ask my wife.
