I have a good trick for you when you get the car running. Sort of similar to what the guy told you about driving it on the road, but a little safer. Start the car up, let it run for about 3 hours at idle and shut it off. Then, doing this quickly so the engine doesn't cool down, jack up the front end so the front wheels are off the ground. Start the car back up in 1st gear. Rev the engine up to a pretty good speed and then slam on the brake and the cluth at the same time. I found that the heat combined with the sudden stop frees up my clutch every year. (It sits all winter long in an un-climate controled garage.)
