It's quite likely then that the same car was sold here in Europe as the Ford Scorpio. It was the first car with standard ABS-system, a feature that was advertised quite extensively when the car was introduced. If I remember well it was introduced as you said somewhere in the second half of the 80's. This car never had a V4 under the bonnet. Everything under the V6's were straight fours. As a matter of fact Ford stopped using the V4's in passenger cars long before Saab did. For as far as I know the Essex V4's were used a bit longer in some of the Transit vans, but the last passenger cars that used the German V4's were the Capris and Granadas in the first half of the '70s. I'm afraid this is a dead lead.
By the way, the first development into a V6 resulted in the 2300cc version. The enlargements came later.
