I do not know of anyone who rebuilds these carbs and have been told that they were not intended to be rebuilt. I have put carb tune-up kits into the FOMOCO carbs on my Sonetts. I have used kits by Hygrade Products (Standard Motor Products) #547A and Niehoff CK489A. Kits include directions, needle and seat, top gasket, choke gasket,fuel inlet screen, accelerator pump diaphragm, accelerator pump ball and *base gaskets. These are designed for the Ford Pinto and Capri 1.6 engines (with similar FOMOCO carbs). *NOTE: The base gaskets in the kits do not fit the Sonett's carb base. I have heard that the VW Gasket 056129799C is a metal gasket that works but when I checked here in Canada, this # was not in the VW's dealers system. I also found a Victor Reinz fiber gasket G26834 from a gasket photo book that may work but this gasket is not available in Canada either. Check with your local VW and Auto parts dealer for these gaskets. I would be interested in knowing if they are available and if they work.
