Oil Pressure Posted by Craig K [Email] (#1834) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Craig K) on Fri, 6 Aug 2004 17:55:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My mechanical aftermarket oil pressure guage has read between 40 and 55lb for the last 25 years on my 68. I just replaced it with another mechanical one that more closely resembles the stock guages. This time I added a Tee so I could rehook up the original idiot light. At first startup it pretty much matched the other guage but the sender for the light was faulty (no continuity with 0 pressure). I drove it for awhile and the pressure remained normal. Replaced the sender and the pressure dropped to about 22lb at Idle but rises to about 45 at higher RPM. At least the idiot light works now. No leaks anywhere. Engine probably pushing about 200K miles but runs strong. So what would a normal pressure read and any explanation for the pressure drop with a good sender?
