This same type of press fitting is used on the FoMoCo and Weber 34ICH carbs, so this tip is NOT just for Solex owners!
Other possible solutions besides the safety wire:
-- Pull out the inlet, smear some epoxy on it, put it back into place, and tap it in firmly. (Put a block of wood over the tube to avoid denting it when you tap.) I did this on a Solex and it seemed VERY strong (a potential problem if you ever damage the inlet tube; you won't be able to get it out to replace it!)
-- A friend of mine pulled the inlet tube out of his Weber 34ICH, drilled and tapped a small hole in the carb body, then reinserted the tube and put a small setscrew into the hole he had made to help hold it in place. My thinking here would be to avoid overtightening the setscrew, because the carb body is cast from soft metal that would strip easily.
-- Any other good cures?
Of course, if you've routed the fuel line so that it has plenty of slack and doesn't exert any strain on the inlet, you're much less likely to have this type of failure -- but better to be doubly sure when you're talking about fuel leaks!
