NO, you don't have to pull the engine, or get drastic and cut out parts of your car, just stretch a little bit before you get in there. Removal of the brake master, or any thing attached to it is greatly assisted by removing the clutch master also, and draping a nice soft cloth over the nose where you'll lean over to get to everything. Once the clutch master is out (you dont have to disconnect hoses or anything, just the pedal attachment and the two bolts to firewall, move it out of the way) you can get to the side of the master very easily. Remove all the lines from the banjo fittings (7/16 hex heads, Or some metric head?), then remove the banjo fittings (a 5/8 hex head). blow the lines clean w/ compressed air, then begin removal from teh vehicle. have fun. If you want to remove the brake master, it is also attached with two bolts to the firewall. just drain out all the brake fluid from the resivor before starting, to save the mess. then undo the clamps to the tube that supplies the cylinder. if this is too corroded. just cut the line, but not before sourcing new tubing for this application. I found tubing that is blue braided rubber hose used for Volkswagon Master Cylinder-Resivor in the past, if you want some of this stuff, e-mail me for more info.
Like i said, not too difficult, but very akward... very very akward. It would probably be aided by removing the nose, but it is by no means necessary.
