...and I will link into the rear bumper supports. I will probably remove the rear bumper and fashion a piece that will bolt in that area instead of the bumper. I will probably fabricate a cross brace too. On a 1974, the bumper support seems strong enought to handle 800 or so pounds. There may be no supports like that on pre-1973 models. I don't know much about pre-1973 bumpers, but I do know the bumpers were radically different.
I am also planning to build a teardrop. I have a trailer from Harbor Freight that I will be assembling when the weather tops 60 degrees consistently. For the $270 I spent, I could not have built one any cheaper. I have some amazing plans with instructions on how to create eliptical design patterns for a more attractive teardrop. I am going for the 5' x 10' model. A smaller one would be a 4' x 8'. What plans do you have?
I will not be trailering my teardrop with the Sonett, as it will probably weigh 75% of the cars weight. The brakes would never stop me, and the car on a wet surface would be a disaster waiting to happen. I would be trailering lighter items. If you build a small 4'x4'x8' teardrop you might be able to get by, but that will still weigh at least 200lb for the trailer, 250 lb for the wood, 40lb for the propane, 30 lb for the stove and cooking wares in a skin and bones stripped down version. I have seen smaller 1 man teardrops, but that would preclude bringing your wife. This may or may not be an advantage, depending on your situation ;-).
