Saabers,

I had an interesting weekend. A few weeks ago...My clutch on my Sonett 3, went dead. Left me stranded.

Well, after seeing the fluid leaking down the tranny side, I knew it was the slave cylinder.

After placing in a rebuilt replacement...on the way I go..and two days later...the clutch again..dead.

Hydrualic fluid all over the floor, I poured some fluid in, and the clutch again firm..the next day..same thing again..

A quick look at the tranny case side, and yes, hydrualic fluid. ???

My conclusion being that the clutch master is bad..thus not sending out fluid to the slave; friciton in the bore and seals..
and more fluid down the tranny case.

Well, I was all set to pull the master..when inspection revealed that the hose connection going to the master cylinder was ruptured.
While down there, the PO did not install a clamp over the brake hose to the brake master, so the floor was bathed in hydraulic fluid.

I changed the hose( yes it is tight, being skinny helped!)last night in the darkenss with a pen light. I was alone, so I installed and tightened the clamps in the engine bay , and not through the wheel well hole.

So I say to myself, that I will tell the Saabers to make sure they inspect those hoses from time to time. It can save you from repairing rust.

Now I am left with a rusty looking engine floor on the left side.

What can I place on there less pulling the drivetrain?

Second, I am thinking the design of the remote hose encourages ruptured hose as the inlet of the clutch master cylinder cap pipe is verical; thus the hydrualic fluid pools right there..(vertically) I was looking hard for a hydraulic rubber hose, yet could not find one, so settled for a "Goodyear" fuel type hose 5/16 size. The store had a beautiful "Goodyear" reinforced inner tube hose, yet only came in 1/4/ 3/8 sizes.

For any of you Sonett owners who moonlight with the lovely classic 900, notice the remote resovoir hose comes in horizontally and not vertically such as the Sonetts.
