Eric and Bill..
Lol... let me in on the joke!
One of the reasons why I thought it may be green is I've seen plenty of Sonetts in different colours, yet..I noticed many times, hints of the original green revealing itself here and there. Apparently, not many humans love the green.
Yet I tell you, I had a 1979 Acacia green five door 900 Turbo ( that someone stole) and I loved that shade of green with its matching luxurious green interior.
I currently own a 1972 Sonett in silver ( how common is that?) IT was on its way to the crusher, when I dashed out to see it. When I pulled up, the thing was a plastic skelaton..(doors and glass removed, no seats. wires chopped up) The trunk floor hanging by a thread of metal at the corner. I convinced the owner and took it home...(in pieces)
After having it towed on a flatbed, and hiding it( You damn right I hid it..peace is needed in the home)I noticed that the original colour was green. That was late 2004; my first Sonett (parts car looking)
I purchased a lovely, shiny 1971 Orange (favourite colour) Sonett earlier.
this year. While admiring it, I noticed at the corner edge...beneath the window...again! that funky green.
So this is where I am now...
I never liked the Sonett prior to a few years ago,( always a 900, 99 and later a 96 fanatic) yet after purchasing these cars, these small aardvark looking cars are really beautiful.
What I will do is restore the silver 72. I'm looking forward to welding, the prone areas. I'm still deciding if I will keep the silver, or paint is a nice tone of yellow (similar to Craig's, yet maybe more of a mango type of yellow) The silver does look a bit less "toyish" than the Baja red. ( I still do not see the red, in this Baja "Orange".
Congratulations Eric, You will have fun.
When you get it, you may want to really check it for rust. This way, you can prevent nay more from developing. I thought my 71 was rust free, yet there is rust in certain areas. like under the clutch master cylinder and corners of the engine bay. I will pull the engine this year, and kill anything that may be growing.
I think about Saabs everyday..and really enjoy looking at the difference throughout the years. From the cute ducktail 99, the humpback 96, the serious sleak appearance of the 900T, the five door 99, and of course the rare classic unsual sports cars in silver and orange. ( not red)
