Yes Derek, you need the blue Bosch 12v coil with internal resistor. Remove or bypass the original fender-mounted resistor. There are two wires hooked up to the original coil. Turn your ignition switch "ON" and test each wire with a volt meter. The wire that is "HOT" when the ignition key "ON" goes to the (+) positive side of the new coil (Wire #15). The other wire goes to the (-) negative post (wire #1). The Pertronix has two wires, red and black. The red Pertronix wire goes to the (+) positive side of the new coil, and the black Pertronix wire goes to the (-) negative side. If you hook the wires up incorrectly you will ruin the Pertronix.
I remember having a conversation with someone "in the know" where they insisted that the Sonett never had an external resistor, which is hog wash as far as I am concerned. My 71 (manufactured Oct 1970) had it spot welded to the inner fender well at the factory!
