I bought a Sonett but decided that I needed a car with a tubular frame for strength. I sold the car and decided to build a new car. I had formed an electric vehicle company and ordered SAAB parts in container lots from SAAB. I decided that I wanted a rear engine capability so I bought a conversion kit from Kennedy. I built two front wheel assemblies with all new parts and the rear assembly had non-turning A-arms and the SAAB CV joints were mated with VW units in the transmission. Coil shocks were used front and rear with stainless steel A-arms. A tubular steel frame was TIG welded. Front and rear treads were increased to 54 inches. The Ford V4 from a SONETT with 50,000 miles was modified to accept a Weber carb with electric fuel pump and dual exhaust. A 16 gallon fuel cell was fabricated from stainless steel with foam liner. A spare parts kit includes steering, brakes, bearings, factory tools, engine parts. Brakes are fitted with stainless steel reinforced hoses. I've reached 84 and my arthritis prevents me from finishing the project.

Oregon car I picked up back in 2000 and has been in storage ever since. When purchased, it has just undergone a restoration with new paint and upholstery and overhauled engine and tranny. Two issues: (1) the previous owner had a thing against the pop-up headlights, so had removed all the headlight hardware and installed driving lights in the grill. I am about half-way done with replacing the pop-up mechanism -- the hood is still off so is accessible for someone to finish the job. (2) the car had apparently had A/C that had been removed at some point. No problem under the hood, but the vent hoses have also been removed under the dash so some analysis/refurbishment would be required there. Too good to part out, but I have no time or space (and too many other projects) to complete.

This Sonett runs and drives very well. The engine was rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, 3/4 cam and the heads were redone for unleaded fuel. There is very little rust in the pans and rockers. The battery box was repaired many years ago. There is a crack in the fiberglass above the left front headlight opening, that was a common place for a crack to occur. This Sonett is a complete vehicle and would make a great parts car or restoration project. There has been a lot of rust repair done to the floors and rockers. The vehicle does run, the brakes work, the tires and exhaust are good. I am no longer able to work on and enjoy the Saabs. The Sonett is located just north of Pittsburgh, PA.
