Alan,
IMAGINE THAT ! From my experience with several old 9000 cars, the front doors like to stop opening from the outside, while the back doors stop from the inside. Very strange, but is seems quite consistent.
The back door problem is not in the child lock mechanism. Somehow, the pull-rod from the inside lever to the latch mechanism gets 'stretched' a little, and doesn't pull far enough after years of use. The trick is to bend the rod a little in a couple of places for make it 'effectively shorter' and restore it's proper function. Make sure that the tweaked rod does not interfere with anything afterwards.
I haven't tried to fix my front door yet, but find that if I hold the key as far as it will go in the 'unlock' position WHILE trying to open the door, the door handle has a better chance of working.
Best of luck.
