1988 9000S Heater blower motor
Posted by Jack Brooks (more from Jack Brooks) on Wed, 29 Mar 2000 13:57:43
I finally had my heater core start leaking after 12 years and 169,000 miles and I have some questions about the longevity of the blower motor. It has never made any abnormal noise, but several years ago it did get stuck on high for a few hours (ACC-I, and wouldn't shift to any other setting), but it returned to normal function after that. Although this has happened twice, several years apart, but not in the past three or four years, I believe this is the ACC unit or the resistor pack, not the blower motor. I am a little hesitant to spent the $150 to replace the blower motor, although the labor to get back to it to replace it later is pretty significant. Can anyone provide feedback on the longevity of the motors?
It appears that the resistor pack is relatively easy to access (easier than the heater core or motor, anyway), so I will leave the old one in place and replace it later, if it fails.
The blower motor, however, is a concern. Anybody have some experience or guidance here?
Thanks in advance,
