Subject: Re: 1986 9000 Turbo

Hi, I had a 1986 SAAB 9000 Turbo, 5 speed for 4.5 years, i sold it 1.5 years ago and it was my best car for the blend of luxury, speed, performance, size and roominess/practicality(especially the five door one wich there only was in '86). At that mileage, of course try to find the history of things that have been fixed like: 1- Engine support, three of them 2- The crank pulley, the original is of aluminum alloy and the repplacement from SAAB is iron. 3- Turbo AND wastegate actuator. I damaged my turbo by not having the actuator of the wastegate maintained and it cost me a turbo rebuild 4- Never replace the alternator with something else than SAAB original, the rebuilt ones are cheaper but don't last. 5-Gas tank support, they are metal straps wich one of them failed, chek for rot. 6- The accesorie belt idler/tightener wheel could be due to be replaced also at that mileage. 7-The pivot ball at the base of the stick-shift could be about to let go if not already changed. The car has no vice although some complain about electrical problems. I had some with the pictogram and cruise control switch but thats it!Oh and the driver heated seat stopped functionning on mine but the passenger was still working. I looked for 1.5 years to replace mine for a newer used model but none were put up for sale during that time so I sold it and bought a Dodge Caravan Sport '96 ;-) and missing my SAAB lately oh...for the past year ;-) Hope this is pertinent and helps you.
