Kenneth S. says... >I find it a little peculiar that the deficiencies of Saabs are >supposed to be excused by their superior qualities, Hell no, who does that?! > I bought my 1996 Saab 900SE just over six months ago. I wanted a >medium-sized front-wheel drive four-door hatchback, and (unlike the >situation in Europe) there are almost no such vehicles on the U.S. >market. Huh? What couldn't you find - four doors with a hatchback? >I had quite a number of irritating problems after I bought the >car, Yeah, well so it goes with almost any used car. I had 'quirky' problems with my 9000 at first. > However, there are several shortcomings in the execution of the >concept, and squeaks and rattles is one. Strange, none of my Saabs had squeaks and rattles. >Strangely enough, in view of >the fact that the car is Swedish-engineered, there are several >unnecessarily gimmicky touches about it, e.g. the idiotic >climate-control system, To please the people, I don't like it either. >but some of the basics (such as a smooth, quiet >engine) are lacking. Saabs don't have quiet engines, they sound smooth to me, but quiet is not how I'd describe them. You do actually hear it start and run, not like a Toyota where you'd possibly grind the starter because you don't even hear it. The engine sounds unique to me - the purr of the motor is strickly Saab. I mean, they made airplanes first didn't they?! As I'm driving along, when I don't have the music cranked out, it is smooth, easy as I go through the gears. I love that sound. ~J~
