Normally you should not need any adjustment after the installation. Some of your symptoms sound like a linkage adjustment problem. That's a quick adjustment at the shop. The other problems sound more like it's not disengaging properly which is much more serious. I hate to say it, but it sounds like something is seriously out of whack. I'd get back to the shop pronto.
