How does the 9-5 handle? = Tire recommendations? Chains? =20 How do the stock Michelin=92s on the 2000 Aero=92s handle the = snow/ice. (225/45 R 17 Pilot MXM) =20 =20 --=20 =20 Marc Escuro mgescuronopsami.com mgescuronopsamnet =20 =20 "...when all hope is gone, you know sad songs say so much..."=20 =20 Mark Escuro & others ... I'm writing from Calgary Alberta Canada, where we are 100 km from = the Rockies & are just digging out of a blizzard. Temp today is about = -25C. Just a few comments about winter driving. I have a 1998 900S with = snow tires on all four wheels. Bought it that way - maybe they are = cheaper in four's! Anyway, snow tires here are not mandatory but highly = recommended. Chains??? Well, there are signs in the Rockies west of = Banff which say "no traffic beyond here without chains when amber light = is flashing". But to most of us, this just means, "stay off the = highway!" What good will chains be in 2 metres of snow? Around here, only truckers use chains. One loose chain can tear the = blazes out of your wheel well liners in no time flat. And where do you = have to go that is so important that it can't wait until the road is = plowed? ... unless you are a trucker! Winter tread tires are a blessing when the snow is falling, but once = it stops & is packed down, they actually provide less traction than = regular treads. Moreover, neither summer nor winter tires will help you = stop any more quickly on black ice or hard-packed snow. Actually, the most important single factor in negotiating deep snow = (other than all-wheel drive) is, in my opinion, clearance. And the 900 = SAAB has it all over lots of others, domestic or import. Park your SAAB = beside a Camry, Acura, Golf, Civic, etc. etc., & see how much light = shows through underneath. In my opinion (don't know aobut the 9000), = the SAAB 900 shows more clearance then most of the others. And that = will get you through (or over!) the snow. What's worth more, a hung-up = Acura with snow-tires, or a SAAB with any tire which actually drives = over the snow?!?
