This was my reaction as well (2) It sounds as though the things wrong with the engine might be obscure, but shouldn't be expensive to put right. If your mechanic suggests that they'll cost thousands of dollars (or euros or groats or whatever) then print out the technical bits of Simon's post and see if your mechanic agrees with them (3) If those things are put right your car should have plenty more life in it Hope that helps Martin
