Subject: Re: GM shifts strategy on brands

>>except hummer, which we know isn't going anywhere. But have faith. I recently discovered that Hummer isn't actually manufactured by GM. It is a product of AM General, formerly a division of American Motors Corp. AMC had to sell AM General to a US based company when Renault took over operations. AM General is now owned by The Renco Group (see http://www.amgeneral.com/corporate_history.php and http://www.rencogroup.net/companies/amgeneral.html). GM's only ownership is in the Hummer, H1 and H2 names/trademarks and the rights to distribute and market the civilian vehicles. Military vehicles are still called Humvee and are manufactured and sold by AM General without involvement from GM.
