I agree, follow RT's advice...or to put it even more simply, buy a 97 or later 900 SET (2.0 turbo) if you buy an automatic or buy an 98 900 SET or later if you buy a manual.

And, yes as always, the pre-inspection is essential.

And in addition to the already mentioned great advice in this thread, I will say a few potentially expensive problem areas on this car are DI Cassette, Water Pump, Cylinder Head Gaskets, Belts/Pulleys...and my car had its radiator and alternator repaired by the previous owner under warranty--but of course those aren't problems endemic to just this car, they can happen to most cars at any time. And fortuantely, these problems except for the DI Cassette were taken care of before we bought the car. So, now we have a 97 900 SET Auto with 62K miles in great shape. So, depending on if this work and the quality of maintenance in general that has been performed on the car in general you should be able to get a great car for a great deal.
