I agree with your comments. Now that I have had the pleasure of driving a 9-5 Sportwagon, I can never see going back to an SUV. I get much better mileage, and with the load bars I can do almost everything that I could with the SUV, with the exception being heavy towing. Another important point - my auto insurance is significantly less expensive with the Saab than it was with the SUV.
I would rather see Saab concentrate on marketing the wagon, even making it more appealing to the US market by adding features like AWD.
