I have made about 400 purchases / 50 sales on ebay over the years. I had bad experience maybe only 2-3 times.

The main rule is to always check seller's feedback. If it is very low or well below 100% - proceed at your own risk and don't blame ebay.

As others said - if you paid via PayPal you get you money back. What else do you think ebay should do for you? File a small claim if you want more.
