The oil consumption is mostly the pcv systems as manufacturers focus on emissions. Honda has oil consumption problems due to VCW and Subaru uses 0w20 and low tension ring lands to cheat fuel economy.

I have one AWD car that take 6 quarts and the other 7 quarts. The use of synthetic blends allows them to go.7,500 miles between changes.
