It's the ferrous stuff that's most harmful though and dominant in engine wear. Any non-ferrous metals are a lot softer. Just look at manual transmissions fluid, it will glimmer from all the brass synchro wear but the soft brass doesn't really cause any gear or bearing wear, hence it's usually a "life time" fluid.
I'd maybe consider the oil cooler change if my oil was chocolate milk from a bad headgasket or maybe wiped a cam bearing on a an older engine or something (yes I know that slightly contradicts my statement above), otherwise it seems a bit silly.
The bypass filtration systems were common before full flow filtration was widespread and still used in industrial application and heavy duty trucks and such that run a ton of hours. I'm sure there are some good youtube videos of people changing oil or running station industrial engines.
