Warm Start
Posted by Ed Segall (more from Ed Segall) on Sat, 3 Jun 1989 17:57:57
One of the few things that repeatedly bothers me about my '84 900 isthe warm start problem. Basically, the car hesitates badly or stallswhen the engine is started warm but not hot. This can happen on awarm day, or in colder weather when the the engine has partiallycooled down.I've heard this is an acknowledged design flaw, and that thefactory recommends letting it warm up a while, and, while drivingbefore it's warmed up fully, keeping the revs up high enough that itdoesn't stumble or stall. Does anyone know the cause of this? Air temp doesn't seem to be theproblem, just engine temp. Does anyone know of a practical fix? Thecar starts so well in cold weather that I'd hate to risk alteringthat, but it's kind of annoying when it won't run right right away ingood weather (actually, it's mostly embarrasing when it tries to die -crawling along with the clutch disengaged, trying to get the engine torev up so I can drive). Thanks,Ed
