Steering/Gas Fill
Posted by Rick Palmer (more from Rick Palmer) on Thu, 20 Jul 1989 15:28:38
I have the following problem with an '80 Turbo: The steering is veryvague. I checked it out yesterday, hoping to find the loose nylonbushings that were mentioned on this list before, but I don't thinkthat's the problem. With the steering wheel fixed, there is about 3/8to half an inch play on the rack itself. There doesn't seem to be anyplay in the ball joints, tie rod ends, or rack-to-tie-rod ball. Thereis also a clicking sound in the rack when it is pushed back and forthhard. My question: Can it be adjusted? If not, what's the solution?Incidently, the (power) steering is rather stiff.Another question: My car is really hard to fill with gas because whenthe flow is high the air/fuel escaping from the gas tank activates theshut-off on the gas pump nozzle. I have to keep the flow very low toget any gas in. Is this a standard problem?thanks, rick
