World's Top Drivers to Compete in Saab Cars in 2000 Michelin Race of
Champions

Press photos are available at: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/press/

Some of the world's top rally and road racing drivers and motorcycle racers
will be competing head-to-head in modified Saab 9-3 race cars in the

Michelin Race of Champions, held December 8-10 in Spain's Canary Islands.

Norcross, Ga. - Saab is competing in one of the world's most spectacular
races with two, 600-horsepower Garrett turbocharged all-wheel-drive Saab
9-3 rallycross cars. The cars, provided by Swedish rallycross racer Per
Eklund, will be used for head-to-head competition in the Michelin Race of
Champions on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain December 8-10, 2000. Racing
in the competition are some of the world's top drivers like four-time World
Rally Champion Tommi Makinen, F1 racer JJ Lehto, and former Indianapolis
500 winner Danny Sullivan. Last year's racing was so intense that it was
broadcast worldwide on 231 channels in 171 countries.

The Nations Cup event consists of eight national teams comprised of one
rally driver, one race driver, and one motorcycle racer. The Finnish
line-up of Makinen, Lehto, and Kari Tiainen won the 1999 event, and all
three will return this year to defend their title. Newcomers include a U.S.
team led by former Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan, who will be joined by
2000 Superbike Champion Colin Edwards and Baja specialist 'Lightning' Larry
Ragland. Each team's rally driver will go head-to-head with the opposing
rally driver, race driver against race driver, and biker against biker.

Eklund, who claimed the 2000 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Open Class
title earlier this year in a modified Saab 9-3 Viggen, has also been
invited to compete in the event's Legends Class against former rally
champions including Stig Blomqvist, Hannu Mikkola and Timo Salonen. Eklund
finished second in this year's European Rallycross Championship and won the
Swedish Rallycross Championship.

The modified Saab 9-3 rallycross cars are turbocharged by Garrett, a
leading global manufacturer of turbochargers for passenger cars, light
trucks, and commercial vehicles, with worldwide headquarters in Torrance,
California, and European Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Known for its
active involvement in auto racing worldwide, Garrett is proud to co-sponsor
Saab and Per Eklund in this high-powered racing event.

The Saab cars will be driven throughout the weekend, including in the event
finals. For more information about the race, see www.raceofchampions.com.

Saab Variable Compression Engine Concept Wins 'Best of What's New' Award

Popular Science magazine names the SVC engine concept to its annual 'Best
of What's New' list honoring product and technology developments

Norcross, GA - The Saab Variable Compression (SVC) engine concept has been
honored by Popular Science magazine with a 'Best of What's New' award for
automotive technology. The editors of the world's largest science and
technology magazine selected the SVC concept to be among 100 'Best of
What's New' itemsÑ placing it on the annual list of new products and
technology developments.

The SVC engine concept is a radical new design that enables fuel
consumption to be drastically cut while increasing engine performance per
liter of engine displacement. The SVC uses energy in fuel far more
efficiently than today's conventional automotive engines through a
combination of reduced engine displacement, high supercharging pressure,
and a unique system for varying the compression ratio.

The SVC concept reduces the fuel consumption of a conventional naturally
aspirated engine by up to 30 percent while at the same time providing
impressive performance. The five-cylinder SVC engine developed by Saab has
a displacement of 1.6 liters and is as fuel- efficient under normal
conditions as a conventional 1.6-liter engine, but can deliver power
comparable to a highly tuned 3.0-liter engine when needed. The carbon
dioxide (CO2) emissions are reduced proportionately to the fuel
consumption, while the CO, HC and NOx emissions will enable the SVC engine
to meet all current and proposed future emissions regulations.

This year, the 'Best of What's New' award will extend beyond the pages of
Popular Science to computer users on the World Wide Web at www.popsci.com.
In turn, viewers will crown one of the 100 winners with the Readers' Choice
Award, to be announced on January 5, 2001.

Subject: Saab Expands Assembly Plant in Trollhattan
==================
Saab Automobile is investing nearly $100 million in expanding its assembly
plant in Trollhattan, Sweden. The investment is part of Saab's long-term
plans to raise production capacity, broaden the model range and increase
global sales volume.

NORCROSS, Ga.- Saab Automobile AB continues to gear up for an expanded
model line by investing nearly $100 million in its assembly plant in
Trollhattan, Sweden. The extension, which will have a total floor area of
226,000 square feet, is the biggest Saab investment in the assembly plant
since 1958, and will involve replacing one of the present two production
lines with a new line, to enable Saab to build a wider range of models than
those produced today.

The plant extension will also increase productivity with a more efficient
material flow process. In addition, improved ergonomics for operators
simplifies some of the tasks. For example, the cars on the line will be
carried on vertically adjusted pallets so that the operator will be able to
adjust the working height for best possible individual comfort.

This is the fourth major investment in production equipment at the Saab
factory in Trollhattan in recent years. A major extension to the body shop
was started earlier this year, a new Saab paint shop became fully
operational last year, and a new press line has been in the course of
installation for two years.

Saab has announced plans to broaden its product range and increase global
sales volume. Sales for calendar year 1999 were up 28.6 percent in the U.S.
to 39,541 vehicles. It was the best U.S. sales year since 1987 and was
Saab's sixth consecutive year of sales growth in the U.S. Worldwide sales
were up 11 percent to 131,200 cars.
