TSN Press 12/28/00 Message from The Saab Network Subject: Saab 9-5 Wagon Named 'Top Car' for 2001 by AAA ================== NORCROSS, Ga. - The 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon has been selected as one of the top vehicle choices for 2001 by the American Automobile Association (AAA). The Saab 9-5 Wagon was among more than 180 models that AAA evaluated for its 2001 New Car and Truck Buying Guide. AAA annually gives the Top Car Award to the passenger cars with the highest rating in their respective 11 price categories. The 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon took top honors in the $30,000 to $35,000 class. It was applauded for its powertrain performance, interior room, ride and handling, and high level of safety features.
AAA offers consumers clear and informative reviews based on real-world situations. Evaluation criteria include ride and handling, safety, acceleration and braking, fuel economy, comfort and convenience, storage space, and value. 'In the end, our selections hinge on which vehicles offer the best combination of performance, design, quality, and value,' said Dave Van Sickle, New Car and Truck Buying Guide Editor. For more details, please see the AAA web site at http://www.aaa.com.
Sporting several Saab innovations designed for customers with active lifestyles, the 9-5 Wagon blends a high level of fun and function. From the driver's seat, owners appreciate one of the strongest and broadest torque bands in the segment. Both the four-cylinder, 2.3L light- pressure turbocharged equipped 9-5 Wagon and the world-first asymmetrically turbocharged V6-powered 9-5 SE Wagon excel at sporty acceleration from a standing start. Equally as important, both variants deliver ample power on tap when it's time to pass slower-moving utility-only vehicles.
Along with a generous helping of fun-to-drive appeal, Saab's all new sport wagon offers a spacious and flexible cargo bay, distinguished by several unique utility features. The aircraft-inspired CargoTracksTM metal load rail system allows owners to transport everything from pets to heavy, oversized packages, all securable with one-grip locks and special bolts. A broad range of accessories such as cages, dividers, nets, cargo guards and other securing mechanisms, make the CargoTrack system an extremely flexible transport feature. An optional sliding load floor, able to accommodate up to 440 pounds and extendible to almost 20 inches, facilitates the loading of heavy objects.
Like all 2001 Saabs, the 9-5 Wagon comes standard with the world-first Saab Active Head Restraint system, designed to reduce the risk of whiplash-type injuries during rear collisions. Front and side head and chest air bags also are standard, as is a lengthy list of additional Saab safety systems and features.
Manufacturer's suggested retail price is $34,695, which includes a high level of standard safety, comfort, and convenience equipment.
Saab Cars USA, Inc. is the importer of Saab 9-5 and 9-3 automobiles for Saab Automobile AB and is headquartered in Norcross, Georgia, near Atlanta. In 1999, Saab enjoyed its sixth consecutive year of sales growth in the U.S. with a 28.6 percent increase over 1998. TSN Press 12/28/00 Message from The Saab Network Subject: 2001 Saabs Rate A from State Farm - Insurance Discounts ================== San Francisco-Area Saab Dealers Offer Cars With Highest Ratings in State Farm Vehicle Safety Discount Program
2001 Saab vehicles eligible for insurance discount in State Farm's recently announced Vehicle Safety Discount program
SAN FRANCISCO-The latest 2001 Saab models that recently arrived at San Francisco-area Saab dealers are now eligible for automobile insurance discounts by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the largest automobile insurer in the United States. The discounts are the result of a new and innovative Vehicle Safety Discount program that is based on actual claim payment data for driver and passenger injuries. The program replaces State Farm's passive restraint discount. Three Saab model variants are eligible for a 40 percent discount on State Farm's medical payment/personal injury protection portion of the automobile insurance coverage. Additionally, three Saab model variants are eligible for lower-than-standard collision and comprehensive premiums.
'Saab applauds State Farm for offering a system that rewards real-life safety,' said Roger Malkusson, head of the Collision Safety Development Department at Saab Automobile in Trollhattan, Sweden. 'Individual crash tests cannot tell the whole story about the overall collision safety of a car. Saab's real-life safety philosophy puts priority on both driver behavior and the vehicle's systems which are designed to protect Saab occupants during a real-world collision, rather than score well on tests.'
A vehicle's safety performance is the product of many factors, including driver and occupant behavior, personal judgment and other variables. The design of the car also influences its real-life safety integrity. The new State Farm program shows that Saab and Saab drivers perform well together in the real world.
In the Program, the Saab 9-3 5-door, 9-3 Convertible, and 9-5 Sedan all are rated 'A' by State Farm, making them eligible in most states for the highest Vehicle Safety Discount on the medical paymenVpersonal injury protection portion of automobile insurance coverage. The 9-3 Convertible, 9-5 Sedan and 9-5 Wagon were also rated 'A' in the Program's Physical Damage Index, providing the Program's highest level of possible discounts for the collision and comprehensive portion of automobile insurance coverage.
All Saab vehicles for 2001 also feature the OnStar system as standard equipment, which makes them eligible for additional insurance discounts with many automobile insurance companies due to the system's theft recovery system. The amount of the discount varies by state and insurance company. Saab is the only European brand to offer such advanced, voice-activated on-board communication services standard in all of its U.S. models.
