It might be nice to tighen it up, but removing it is no trivialtask. No, I don't think replacement at 40k is reasonable. Perhaps some gritis normal; I've never serviced mine in any way. Did Saab change materialsbetween my car and yours?On the subject of Saab losing sales, I would speculate that the primaryreason is a reputation for breaking down. When people spend $20k for a car,they usually expect something reliable. A number of changes, particularlyinvolving electrical connectors, would make a car like mine much morereliable. These, together with a 'limp-home' mode of operation bypassingfailed components could do much to prevent unshedualed roadside maintainence.For instance, there are at least 15 connections in the loop which powersthe starter solenoid.
